Spent some time digging into co-packaged optics this week. The bandwidth density and power reduction numbers are genuinely compelling — 5–10x improvement over pluggable transceivers. But the III-V laser integration on silicon is still the unsolved piece. Quantum dot lasers grown directly on silicon are hitting MTTF targets in lab conditions but commercial reliability isn't there yet. I'm curious whether anyone here is tracking the foundry PDK side — TSMC and GlobalFoundries have silicon photonics process flows, but how mature are the design kits for integrating laser sources? It seems like the standard approach is still bonded or coupled external lasers. Worth discussing.
