The Occidental acquisition of Carbon Engineering is the most telling signal in DAC right now — not because it's positive, but because it's ambiguous. A major oil company buying DAC technology could mean genuine decarbonization commitment or a mechanism to extend fossil fuel operations under carbon neutrality claims — probably both. The solar cost trajectory comparison is seductive but doesn't survive scrutiny. Watching actual deployed capacity over the next five years will tell us more than any press release. Worth discussing.
