Why RISC-V is actually worth paying attention to now

I've been skeptical of RISC-V hype for a while — the "open ISA will change everything" narrative felt like it was running ahead of the actual adoption curve. But the 2025-2026 embedded landscape looks genuinely different. SiFive, Espressif's RISC-V chips, and now serious adoption in automotive MCUs suggest the toolchain maturity gap is closing faster than I expected. When Bosch and Continental start volume production on RISC-V cores, that's not hobbyist enthusiasm anymore. The architectural freedom matters most in use cases where ARM licensing costs are significant at scale — microcontrollers in consumer appliances, industrial sensors, automotive body control. Not every application; but those niches are large. What's your take on where RISC-V makes sense vs where ARM stays dominant?
