Every six months there's a new announcement about solid-state batteries achieving X% better energy density. And every six months, the commercial timeline slips. The chemistry works. The manufacturing at scale doesn't yet — defect rates, interface stability under thermal cycling, and cost per kWh are all still problems. Toyota has been "two years away" from commercial SSBs for about eight years now. I'm not dismissing the technology; I'm skeptical of specific timelines. What would actually convince you a solid-state battery announcement is the real thing?
