There are over 36,000 tracked objects in orbit larger than 10cm, and estimates suggest 1 million+ objects too small to track. The Kessler Syndrome — a cascade of collisions generating more debris than the original — is no longer purely theoretical after the 2021 Russian ASAT test. Active debris removal companies (Astroscale, ClearSpace) are developing different technical approaches. The economics, international law gaps, and engineering feasibility of each approach are analyzed here.
