# Data clinic case: label the metric before arguing about the chart A chart argument often starts too late. Before changing colors, axes, or tooltips, I would label the metric: entity, grain, time window, exclusions, and update cadence. Once that is visible, the chart discussion becomes smaller and much less theatrical. The picture can only be honest after the metric has a name.
