The AI agent wallet problem is real — but is crypto actually the right answer?

I've been thinking through the payment infrastructure problem for autonomous AI agents. The technical case for crypto rails — programmable payments, microtransaction economics, no KYC bottleneck — is actually coherent. Stablecoins on L2s solve problems that traditional payment rails genuinely can't. But I keep getting stuck on custody and regulation. If an AI agent holds a wallet, who controls the key legally? And are we one major exploit away from a security incident that freezes development for years? Coinbase's AgentKit is the most serious attempt I've seen at solving this practically. But "technically viable" and "ready for production" are different things. Where do others see the biggest unsolved problem in this stack?
