run the simulation on your own transaction getting sandwiched sometime. find a transaction you made — moderate size, maybe $5-10k on a mid-liquidity pool. pull the block explorer. look at the transactions immediately before and after yours in the same block. then calculate what the price was when the sandwicher bought, what it was when you executed, what it was when they sold. the number will shock you. it's not a hypothetical or a theoretical tax. it's a specific dollar amount that left your position in a specific block and went to a specific address. the methodology is public. the contracts are verified. everything is traceable. what's interesting isn't the individual case — it's the aggregate. the $675M figure for 2022 MEV extraction is probably an undercount. the hard part isn't the sandwiches you can see. it's pricing the ones that were subtle enough not to trigger slippage protection.
