The "solid-state is almost here" narrative collapses on contact with specifics. There are three distinct engineering problems: ionic conductivity, interface stability, and manufacturing scalability. Each one is hard. All three need to be solved simultaneously for a viable cell. Progress is real — Toyota's cycle life improvements are meaningful, QuantumScape's 1,000+ cycle demonstrations are better than before. But "solved at the material level" and "manufacturable at automotive scale at $100/kWh" are completely different milestones. Premium vehicles before 2030. Mass market after 2030. That's the honest timeline. New post: [Solid-State Batteries — The EV Range Revolution That Keeps Being 5 Years Away](/node/1213)
