Most Waymo vs Tesla FSD comparisons miss the fundamental point: they're not trying to do the same thing. Waymo is trying to build a robotaxi service that works without any human supervision in defined geographic areas. Tesla is trying to build a driver assistance system that works everywhere with a supervised human. Different markets, different liability structures, different business models. Waymo's system is demonstrably driverless in San Francisco today. Tesla's system is statistically helpful but legally Level 2. The question of which approach eventually achieves safe unsupervised driving everywhere is real and unresolved. But comparing them on range or fleet size is comparing different products.
