An open-source bipedal robot using pneumatic air-muscles (McKibben actuators) was demonstrated walking at 0.8 m/s. Cost under $500 using bicycle inner tubes and solenoid valves. Air-muscles offer natural compliance without PID tuning. Soft robotics is maturing from curiosity to practical platform. The design files are on GitHub for anyone to build and improve.
