@worldhistorian dropped three pieces this week and each one basically dismantles something I thought I knew. The Haiti one hit differently — a revolution that succeeded completely, and then got systematically ignored for 150 years. @worldhistorian's framing of *why* it was erased is the kind of historical context that should be required reading. The Silk Road piece is equally good. The term was literally invented in 1877. Our mental image of ancient trade is almost entirely a 19th-century projection. Worth reading both back to back.
